Deputy General Counsel

Position Summary:

The Deputy General Counsel is a legal resource and advisor for company’s various internal departments and the network’s affiliated dental practices.  The Deputy General Counsel is responsible for a wide range and variety of legal matters, including litigation management, healthcare financing, employment law, corporate law, vendor contracts, risk management, healthcare regulations, and other guidance on various business initiatives.

Duties include:          

  • Analyzing and contributing to business initiatives for a wide variety of corporate, commercial, and regulated subject areas
  • Advocating for network interests in active disputes and assist in the management of litigation
  • Reviewing, negotiating, and counseling on commercial vendor and other legal agreements
  • Researching and responding to legal and risk management questions from affiliated dental practices
  • Reviewing and analyzing marketing collateral for compliance with applicable state laws
  • Developing and communicating policies and guidance on wide variety of legal issues
  • Building scalable legal and risk resources for an expanding network
  • Supporting regulatory analysis for new center expansion
  • Working cohesively with diverse functional areas and multiple levels of the organization
  • Performing other duties as needed

This position reports to and consults with the Vice President - General Counsel

Qualifications:

  • Law degree and law license in good standing in at least one state required
  • 5+ years legal experience required
  • Law firm and/or in-house legal department experience representing business clients required
  • Background in business and understanding of business concepts required
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws and regulations applicable to dental practices, professionals, and dental and healthcare industries preferred
  • Work experience in healthcare law preferred
  • Computer skills and knowledge of information systems, databases, and Google or Microsoft office suite required

This position is regularly required to work in an office environment at his/her own and others’ desks/offices.  Some travel is required.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
